Lia's birthday was just around the corner, and everyone was looking forward to it! There's just one problem: Her adopted father, Calem doesn't know what to give to her adopted daughter. He was looking at some men riding horses, which gives him an idea.
"Gardevoir, we're heading to the pet store," he told his Gardevoir.
"(Why?)" it asked.
"I know just what to get Lia for her birthday!" he replied.
When they got there, they went to the horse section.
"(Master Calem, are you sure?)" asked Gardevoir. "(Do you even know what your stepdaughter likes?)"
"Believe me, Gardevoir", replied Calem, "This will be an amazing gift."
Then a tan brown pony started to hit its hoof on the gate to get Calem's attention.
"Hm. What do we have here?" Calem said as he notices the pony and goes up to it.
"This could be the one," he thought to himself.
"Hey, little guy," Calem said to the pony, "You want to come home with me? My daughter Lia would definitely want to have you!" he asked.
The pony screeches in response, meaning "Yes."
"OK! Let's go!" he said. When he made the payments, he knew that his daughter would be very pleased.
On the day of her birthday, Lia was having fun with her friends. She received a lot of presents; it was Calem's turn to give her present from him.
"Guys, come outside!" said Calem, as they went out.
Lia gasped as she was surprised by her new gift. "Thank you, Daddy!" she responded. "I'll call him Johnny!"
The pony, now known as Johnny, screeched in response to his new name.
"A pony named Johnny? That rhymes," said Elio, one of Calem's friends, as everyone then looked at him awkwardly.
"Elio, that's the weirdest thing you've said since becoming Alola League Champion," replied his sister Selene.
"Sorry...", he responded.
Lia was very satisfied with her gift and went to hug his father. "Thank you," she said.
"You're welcome, princess," he replied.
